MASCHIO ANGIOINO

Maschio Angioino is also known as 'New Castle' because it replaced the previous Royal residence. It was built under the dynasty of Charles I of Anjou, who commissioned many artists, including Giotto, for its construction.
The Marble Arch, entrance to the Castle and recalling the ancient Roman triumphal arches, was designed to celebrate the success and power of the Aragonese dynasty.
In the internal courtyard, you will find the Barons' Hall and the Chapel, painted by Giotto.
Today the Maschio Angioino is home to the Neapolitan Society of History and to the Civic Museum.
